on a sunny afternoon
we were off to the mountains
to find if it were true

looking for wild bushes berries near the ground
and the birds they sang a familiar sound
they said

and you
you’re still not real

so we took to the caves next
looking for a mushroom we could brew into a tea
you tripped on an overhang and fell on me
and scraped your pretty little knee

but we delved on deeper still
looking for answers that your mother left in notes
until we found her
a fleeting feeling something clawing at our throats

against better judgement
we took our things and ran
back to the ocean
where we can bathe in summers bleeding touch against the sand
